Partners of the Water Resource Center

The Willary Water Resource Center is itself a partnership between Keystone College and the Lackawanna County Conservation District; however, many additional partners assist with ensuring the Center's continued success.  These partners include:

Keystone College has a long history of cultivating environmental partnerships within the region.  This is reflected in its on-campus environmental complex, which houses the organizations listed below, including the Willary Water Resource Center.

Keystone College Environmental Education Institute

KceeI: The Academy in the Woodlands is funded by the USDA Forest Service through the Education and Research Consortium of the Western Carolinas, Inc.  The Institute is committed to enhancing the teaching experience by providing hands-on, inquiry-based science and environmental education to educators using nature as a laboratory.  For more information visit www.KceeI.keystone.edu.

Countryside Conservancy

The Conservancy was established in 1994 to conserve lands and waters in and near the Tunkhannock Creek Watershed for public benefit, now and for the future.  The Countryside Conservancy promotes conservation in Lackawanna, Wyoming and Susquehanna Counties by providing information and assistance to landowners who want to preserve the health of their lands and waters, and encouraging citizens to get involved in watershed protection.  For more information visit www.cconserve.org.

The Mid-Atlantic Center for Urban and Community Forestry

This Center is part of the USDA Forest Service, Northeastern Area, Urban and Community Forestry Program, providing assistance in the development and transfer of innovative tools and technologies to assure healthy functioning urban forests for generations to come.  The Center supports the needs of state forestry agencies in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.  For more information visit http://www.fs.fed.us/na/morgantown/macucf/index.htm.

The Northeast Pennsylvania Urban and Community Forestry Program

This program supports local efforts to demonstrate how a livable, sustainable environment, achieved through community stewardship of urban forest resources, contributes to the social, economic and ecological health of the region.  The program is funded by the USDA Forest Service, Northeastern Area, State and Private Forestry, and directed by the PA Urban Forestry Council in cooperation with PA DCNR, Bureau of Forestry, Rural Community Forestry Section and Penn State Cooperative Extension.  For more information visit http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/pucfc/index.html.

Keystone’s Water Resource Management Program

The Water Resource Management, Professional Studies Bachelor of Science Curriculum is designed to develop knowledgeable and effective leaders for local, regional and national environmental activities.  Its emphasis is on preparing scientists who can ensure that environmental actions are based on good science.  Students benefit from rigorous academics combined with hands-on experience at on-campus streams and wetlands, and at nearby Lake Manataka.  In 2004, Keystone added a field hydrogeology laboratory and state-of-the-art analytical laboratory.  For more information visit http://www.keystone.edu/Catalog/Documents/WaterResourceManagementBD.pdf
